BIO

It started in 1967 with the first band, “Frenchie & The Oui-Ouis.”  From there it graduated to the band “Roadmaster” and a first album with a production touch from the amazing Todd Rundgren.  Then came touring and performing with the great groups of the day like REO Speedwagon, Bob Seger, Average White Band, Cheap Trick, Rush, Yes, Edgar Winter, BTO and more!

Transitioning to radio in 1977, I worked for some of America’s great stations in Indianapolis, Washington, D.C. and St. Louis.

As a VJ (Video Jock), the “Headbangers Ball” interview I did that’s been titled “Guns n Roses Studio Teardown” has now been designated as one of “The Top 40 Greatest Moments In MTV History” according to “Rolling Stone” Magazine.

I’ve been in the “Entertainment Business” for fifty years.  Most of it was spent in St. Louis (30 years).  In Radio, TV and on the Music Stage, I was largely know for my style, presence, delivery and community involvement.  From my early days in St. Louis at KSHE-95 to “Smash Around Town” on Fox 2 News to endorsement commercials for local, regional and national business clients, I have always strove to achieve the ratings and revenue goals of my employers and clients so that the results and impact is everyone “Diggin’ The Smash.”

“Smash Band,” through our efforts in and at sports team, civic, corporate and wedding events (like our 12 years as “The Official Rams Rally Tailgate Party Band”), has come to be known as the premier events band in St. Louis.  As the branding goes, “Smash Band…Bringing The Party!”

The giving of time and effort through community outreach to a multiple of charitable fundraising associations and organizations, especially in the continual fight against Diabetes and in support of and for our armed forces has yielded a mutual endearment to and from the St. Louis area.  This was exemplified on January 29, 2016 with St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay’s signed and declared “Proclamation” as “Asher Benrubi/Smash Day in the Gateway City.

Now, having moved from St. Louis and living in Phoenix, I look forward to the path that the Lord’s put me on and what’s next.
